<< Back to Deja Voodoo: The "X-Stop Files" Revisited
Exhibit "A"?
Like all censorware, X-Stop blocks a number of ISPs. We won't bother to list them all, but one deserves a particular mention: Execulink Internet Services Corporation. Why? Properly, it
advertises itself as a "family-friendly" ISP. It rates with RSACi (zeros across the board, indicating no sex, no violence, no profanity, and no nudity), and its terms of service include the following:
"PROHIBITED MATERIAL AND ACTIVITIES
"To protect our subscribers, the security of our facilities, and our reputation and good standing on the Internet network community, Execulink
specifically prohibits the storage on our servers, subscriber web sites or
other Execulink facilities, any information or content which in our
exclusive opinion is potentially illegal, defamatory, 'ADULT' or 'HATE'
information or material, unlicensed copy righted materials, or which
contains links or directs visitors to sites which contain information or
content prohibited on our facilities."
For those who want it, Execulink offers BESS censoring at the server level. It encourages subscribers to contribute to its list of "Family Favourites" sites, and even includes a link to one of
our favorite organizations, Focus on the Family.
And yet, it's been blacklisted for its gross pornography, child pornography, and bestiality. Go figure.
