I was witness to report and information this week that convinced me there is no equal to the X-Stop program. It's even better than I thought. As the tech evaluators and magazines catch up with their comparison research, they are now putting X-Stop at the stop of their recommendations. They have achieved 100% success. That is, at this time, there are no porn sights that the X-Stop Direct Address Blocking web mudcrawler has not discovered. Their prices are also reported to be quite reasonable. They just got a multi-million dollar order from Taiwan for their product. Librarians in Idaho started with just the "library block" program (only blocks out ILLEGAL porn), but when allowed to try the other program that could be added easily for the "level one" stuff (Playboy etc), it was so good and convenient and effective, they took that, too. They don't even require a sea of people to be employed just to watch porn all day. It's automated through a combination of mathematics, probability, common sense, and close accounting and observation of the habits and common practices of electronic porn purveyors, Adjusting and tweaking is easy, and the folks who run this business are the most ethical people I've ever met connected to cyberspace. They also have a great $12.95 product for parents who want to protect their kids from chat room predators, even when they're not home! I hope this doesn't scare anybody off, but X-Stop has just been officially endorsed by the national American Family Association, the Enough Is Enough organization, and, of course, Family Friendly Libraries. One of their folks, as I mentioned before, will be at our open program in Cincinnati on September 19th. Y'all are welcome, even if you only want to come to disagree! I've also got a list of libraries in Ohio who use "The Library Channel" (V-Impact) if anybody wants to talk to them. But I'm frankly not as excited by that program. Columbus, Ohio is one of the users and their director is quite enthusiastic about it.
